Steps I took leading up to the issue
For example:

1. Go to ‘…tools.’
2. Click on '…pubmed export plug ’
3. Scroll down to ‘…’

Describe the issue or problem
After upgrading to OJS 3.4.0-8, we were not able to save changes in pages that contain special characters like ( and :
our site is using Arabic and English languages. The collation for our database after upgrading is “utf8mb3_general_ci” and PHP version is 8.1.
I used to Chatgpt to solve the problem and it suggest to change the collation to utf8mb4_unicode_ci and modify the Config file by changing:
connection_charset = utf8mb4
database_charset = utf8mb4

If I do this, will that solve the problem ?

In OJS 3.4.0.6, when assigning a reviewer to an article, the email is not sent to the reviewer, but the notification is shown in the panel. Other emails related to registration and … are sent correctly.

Dear OJS Developers,

I would like to raise an issue that was mentioned in February 2024 on this forum regarding the DRIVER plugin included with OJS version 3.4.0.4. Specifically, the plugin does not generate any records through the OAI interface. Here is the link to that discussion:

It appears that the author of the topic reverted their journal to an older version, OJS 3.2.1.5, the recommendations provided in the aforementioned discussion did not have a positive effect.

This issue also affects my journal, which is running on OJS version 3.4.0.5 (PHP version 8.3.14, Apache version Apache/2.4.62 (Ubuntu), Database driver: MySQL, Database server version: 8.0.40-0ubuntu0.22.04.1). Here is the link:

To ensure that this is not a local issue specific to my journal, I conducted research on various journals operating on OJS version 3.4.0.X.

Please tell us what happens and what you expected to happen.
I made a new GridHandler and in it I created a method called readReview which is meant to open up an AjaxModal with the review form. However, everytime I click on the text that is meant to open the modal it just gives a 404 error even though I checked everything, routing name correct, URL should be correct. The handler I made is working aswell since the fetchGrid function in it is working fine and the handler is registered. Only the method readReview is not being called at all and I just get a 404 error.

What application are you using?

Here is the code for the getCellActions function for generating the AjaxModal and the routing inside the CellProvider class I made to go with the GridHandler I made

Hello,

I’m encountering an issue with the PKP-PLN plugin that I’m unable to resolve. When I try to configure the settings, I receive the error message: “Failed Ajax request or invalid JSON returned.”

For reference, I am using Open Journal Systems (OJS) version 3.4.0.3, along with PKP|PN version 3.0.0-1 compatible with OJS 3.4.

Describe the issue or problem
I’m trying to enhanced the security for an OJS 2.4 instance (upgrade in the works) by placing it behind a nginx reverse proxy. In my setup OJS via Apache webserver runs locally on port 8443 and the reverse proxy is listening on port 443, both on the same machine.

The http(s) part works fine so far but now I’ve stumbled over the problem that links in mails generated by OJS all include the ‘private port’. Is there a way to configure OJS link generation to omit this port?

Describe the issue or problem
OJS 3.4 introduced a new automatic email to notify editors that a new submission needs an editor to be assigned (SUBMISSION_NEEDS_EDITOR ; object is A new submission needs an editor to be assigned : {$submissionTitle}).

Problem is that this email is not displayed in OJS email templates list (Parameter > Workflow > Email).

Is there a simple way to add it the template list?

The ID of this journal in the PKP PN is: 6404A2DD-A035-4B1A-8847-065117ED8C69
OJS 3.3.0.17 with updated plugin.

A journal was having difficulty having two of its editions preserved in the PKP PN. An older one was due to an invalid character, which was resolved. However, with the most recent edition, we encountered an unusual problem.

Until December 17, we received this error:

Hi, I have the pkp pn plugin installed since December last year.
However, it gave me the following error:

I have updated the plugin from the panel and manually from git. But it still doesn’t work. I’ve made a few changes that I found on the forums, but they haven’t helped either.

Turn off OJSSID

Is it possible to turn off completely OJSSID?

Rationale

Due to recent changes in Polish law which is increasingly strict about cookies even very unharmful cookies like OJSSID have to be reported or user has to give his/her permission which produces additional barrier.

Questions
Is it possible to completely turn it off?

What would I lose?
I don’t want users to log in. Whole workflow is done traditionally in e-mail. Still need administrator access to log in for myself and several others from editorial team.

What about language support?
Site is in two languages - Polish and English. Currently it is done through cookie(?) Even without that I would prefer to get it with separate URL (like /en/ somewhere, Polish is base language). It would help with separate DOIs for translations of articles. Currently landing pages for translations have the same URL which is against DOI rules.

What application are you using?

I’m facing many problems with deposit of issues on PKP PN using the PKP|PN (PKP Preservation Network) Plugin on an multi-journal OJS installation.

The homepage of one of the journals with problems is https://riviste.aib.it/index.php/vedianche
With this journals I have 2 different problems:

1) Issue’s status in the plugin is “In progress” but it is “Deposited” in the onix.csv file
Looking at the plugin “status” tab, I see some journals issues whose status is “In progress” (see screenshot below).
If I check on this file https://pkp.sfu.ca/files/pkppn/onix.csv
those issues are listed with a “Deposited date” (see screenshot below)

2) Issue’s status in the plugin is “In progress” but it is not listed in the onix.csv file
Looking at the plugin “status” tab, I see some issues whose status is “In progress” (see screenshot below).
If I check on this file

Checking the scheduledTasks log files I see the following XML errors related to the same issue (Vol. 27 No. 2 - Issue ID: 826)

An odd thing began happening last summer when our hosting provider (TSOHost/123reg) migrated/changed our hosting package (internally — not to a different provider). Our journal no longer functioned in Safari browsers (so it’s a serious problem for our Mac user base). From what I can gather, pages do not appear to load the default css stylesheet (we use Manuscript) and PDFs are not viewable or downloadable even.

I set the PHP version back down to 7.2 and made sure that OJS was using this in the htaccess files, in case this was the cause. Still no success. I contacted our hosting provider but they were none the wiser, and alerted me to the problem of the stylesheet not loading. I double checked various folder permissions and compared them to another OJS-based journal I manage, and found no obvious issues.

Since that date the error log has exploded in size. Below is an excerpt from today’s entries (the last few lines relating to my having tried to view the site in Safari on iOS):

I should be very grateful for any advice on this matter, because it is driving me to distraction. I had intended to perform some upgrades to the recent version of OJS but I dare not if the root cause is going to cause failure and corruption of data.

I’m using OJS 3.1.2.4

I’m using OJS 3.4.0-8(latest).
Whenever I try to save a setting in admin Dashboard this appears “An unexpected error has occurred. Please reload the page and try again.” and setting cannot be saved. Also in some sections of the Dashboard e.g. Settings-Websites-Plugins a loading circle is appearing as if loading forever.
What can I do to solve these issues and be able to use and see all settings correctly?
