Hello everybody

What is "pkpTag plugin for tinyMCE" for?

Hi,
Reviewing OJS 3.1.2-1 in detail today I just realized we have a new button at the end of tinyMCE’s toolbar. When you click on it you get a “No tags available” message and nothing happens.

Taking a look to ojs’ tinyMCE integration plugin looks like is a tinyMCE plugin developed by PKP to “inject” preformated texts (translation files show 2-3 tag examples) but I’m unsure if this is the feature and how can it make it work.

@asmecher github says you are the developer. Any link or comment to know more about this?

Cheers,
m.

The problem is the extra day of the conference

@alex_harlamenkov wrote:

Hello
The problem is the extra day of the conference.
We have a one-day conference.
In the “Site Management”> “Conference Schedule” the end date of the conference is forced to +1 from the date of the start of the conference.
As a result, instead of a one-day conference, it turns out to be a two-day one.
The adjustment of this date is not saved: I specify August 16, save, re-open the schedule management - and there on August 17.

To make the system accept the correct date, I spend a cycle of adjustments in the end date of the conference:
I specify the end date 08/16/2020 (at the same time I have to correct and the archiving date)> save> open settings again and change year 2020 -> 2019> save. The result is a one-day conference.

But the next time you open the conference schedule settings page, the end date is again August 17, 2019.

How to fix the situation.

OJS3 - Can't update institutional subscription for 1 journal in a multi-journal install

We’re running version 3.1.2-1 of OJS, and can’t seem to update the institutional subscriptions for one particular journal in our install – others work.

If i go into edit mode, and jump down straight to save, it complains about it not having a valid start date – which it most definitely has.

Here’s the apache error log for that request:

Help customizing a theme in OJS 2.4.7.1

Hello everyone,
I’m new to OJS and our University department need some changes in the site.

I managed to copy the CSS and the HTML files from the page so I could locally make all the changes I needed. I have already some CSS and HTML skills so it wasn’t a problem modifying the stylesheet. Basically is using the same theme but with all the modifications I want (BlueSteel theme).

However, my changes includes a Banner that has a different size from the original one, I could see it how it could look with all the CSS instructions and all, but the image itself is located in the HTML file, not in the CSS, so when i want to change the theme to my custom theme, OJS only let me upload the Stylesheet but I would like to know where I can modify the banner section in the Admin settings from OJS so I can upload al the changes I need.

I tried everything to understand how to make it in the forum but I’m still struggling about how does OJS archives work, maybe there’s something i’m not understanding well, so please let me know about something i could be missing.

This is how it’s look before all my changes:

This is with all the changes I want to make:

Thank you very much in advance and I hope you can guide me

Hi,

I am wondering if in the future will be possible to link co-authors with existing accounts in OJS when a new submission is submitted. For example, on Manuscript Manager (other software) you can introduce just the email of co-authors and the other information is linked automatically.

What do you think about this??

thanks!!

Enroll an Existing User as Reviewer in Add Reviewer should allow search by email and/or login

@Carolina_Tanigushi wrote:

If you’re trying to enroll an existing user via the Add Reviewer form, it only allows you to search by name, which is a pretty big issue in an installation with multiple journals, since it’s pretty common to have different people with the same name or even a person with multiple accounts.

To solve this, it should either allow searching using other options such as email account or login, or at least display the email account or login next to the possible reviewer’s name.

We have a hosted OJS 3.X site, so I’m not a programmer or IT person. We do not use OJS’s peer-review system; we use another system and post PDFs via the Quick Submit plug-in.

We produce 2-page briefs of some of our articles. We’ve been posting them on a separate page (https://www.foodsystemsjournal.org/index.php/fsj/foodsystemsbriefs), but it makes MUCH more sense to post them on the article page.

I’ve been trying out posting the PDF of a brief as a galley with an article component type I’ve defined (see https://www.foodsystemsjournal.org/index.php/fsj/article/view/623). But it doesn’t stand out well. I’d like it to be very obvious and appealing to the reader: “Oh, there’s a brief of this article! Awesome; I’m downloading it now!” For example, it would be great if it had a header like the one that appears just below the PDFs, labeled “PUBLISHED” with the date below.

Other journals must have similar needs and may have come up with more creative solutions. I’d appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

Counter report metrics after upgrade to 3.1.1 was quite a bit higher than the counter report metrics from 2.4.* and trying to figure out why

I am trying to figure out why the counter report metric totals for all journals went up about ~8x the amount after we upgraded to 3.1.1 from 2.4.* (by journal varied around 2x-10x).

I’ve read: https://pkp.sfu.ca/wiki/index.php?title=PKP_Statistics_Framework#Statistics_migration

And: How to generate legacyCounterPlugin stats after upgrade to 2.4.3

I then started looking at the database: count(*), metric from metrics by month and noticed that metric 1 had a count that was higher but metrics 2, 3 and 4. I could not find a mapping table that defines what each of those metrics means and was curious if anyone knew what each metric means which would hopefully answer my question as to what changed.

mysql> select count(), metric from metrics where month = ‘201808’ group by metric;
±---------±-------+
| count(

±---------±-------+
| 81286 | 1 |
| 9693 | 2 |
| 1543 | 3 |

vs.

mysql> select count(), metric from metrics where month = ‘201810’ group by metric;
±---------±-------+
| count(
) | metric |
±---------±-------+

OCS and PHP 7.0.33 Install Errors

I’m running into PHP 7 install errors when trying to setup OCS (stable release 2.3.6), and wondering if this issue is going to be resolved, or if an unofficial workaround exists?

Specifically when installing I get the following 3 errors, the last of which is the fatal PHP error that seems to be causing the main issue. From my server error logs:

-PHP Deprecated: Methods with the same name as their class will not be constructors in a future version of PHP; Application has a deprecated constructor in /xxx/xxx/public_html/domainurl/classes/core/Application.inc.php on line 30

-PHP Deprecated: Methods with the same name as their class will not be constructors in a future version of PHP; PKPApplication has a deprecated constructor in /xxx/xxx/public_html/domainurl/lib/pkp/classes/core/PKPApplication.inc.php on line 24

-PHP Fatal error: Cannot use ‘String’ as class name as it is reserved in /xxx/xxx/public_html/domainurl/lib/pkp/classes/core/String.inc.php on line 57

I’ve read in other threads [here], [here], and [here] that this is a known issue, but have not found a usable workaround without rolling back to an earlier version of PHP, which is not an option for me. In the last of those links Alec noted that the “current version of the stable branch in git ( ocs-stable-2_3_6 ) works with PHP7; if you want to use OCS with PHP7 you’ll need to check that version out from github.”

I tried downloading and installing both the ocs-dev-2_3 and ocs-stable-2_3_6 branches from GitHub, but ran into the similar issues (& more with the dev version) as with the current stable release on the PKP website.

I also tried using both mysql and mysqli in the config file, but didn’t make any difference.

Not sure if I’m missing something here still (perhaps still getting old /lib or /classes files?), but couldn’t find a solution in the forums.

This is hosted on a shared Bluehost server account:
cPanel 78.0 (build 34) // Apache 2.4.39 // PHP 7.0.33 // MySQL 5.6.41-84.1 // Perl 5.28.0

Journal Manager/Editor Cannot Edit Submission Metadata

  • Application Version: 3.1.2.1
  • Description of issue:
The editor of our journal, with the below permissions, is unable to edit the metadata for submissions (in particular, we’re looking at one submission that is in copyediting, and another that has been published but needs a correction. The top part of the metadata modal is editable (Section, Language, Prefix, Title, Subtitle, Abstract) but the lower part is greyed out and not editable.

The user has these roles

  • Journal Manager
  • Journal Editor
  • Production Editor
  • Copyeditor
  • Layout Editor
  • Author
  • Reviewer

Any suggestions as to what might be going on here? We had the problem on version 3.1.1.4 and upgraded to 3.1.2.1 but still see this issue. I can’t say if this used to work, but they’ve never complained about not being able to edit metadata. (we’ve upgraded through most versions starting with 2.4.6.0, so perhaps something changed at some point?)

In troubleshooting, my admin (Journal Manager only account) was NOT able to edit metadata. I created a test editor account, and it was able to edit, but removed the account before I took note of what roles I had given it. I went through and re-added roles, but could not get back to the point where I was able to edit the metadata. (Is there an audit log for user role modifications?)

Here’s what the editor sees when they try to edit the submission metadata:

Is there a setting? A specific role? Some other workflow reason that metadata is not editable?

Thanks!
