Print on Demand

Does anyone know a good print on demand provider? For our journal, REGION, that we manage with OJS 3, we want to provide the following service option:

  1. readers can request a printed (on demand) version of an issue of the journal by clicking a button.
  2. the order goes to the PoD provider who requests the shipping address from the reader and provides s price estimate.
  3. The reader pays directly to the PoD provider via credit card.
    If the PoD provider offers an API, I can create the necessary software linking these elements. So far, I have only found providers that print books but don’t offer the integration, or offer the integration but do not print books (only t-shirts, mugs, etc.).

Hi, I’m using OJS 3.1.2 and would like to make some changes to the search page:

1- add a button to clear the previous search
2- in the advanced filters that did not come out on the current date but in white and right there how to make the month come out in Spanish (as I have defined Spanish and English as languages)

Where should I look to do this?

Cannot add reviewers to a submission in 3.1.2.0 (Malformed UTF-8 characters)

@hilongo wrote:

This is an OJS 2.4.8 installation upgraded to OJS 3.1.2.0 early this year. Almost everything works as intended but we are facing a problem when trying to add a reviewer to a submission.

Whenever we try to “Add a reviewer” we get an error stating “Failed AJAX request or invalid JSON returned”

with a corresponding error in the Apache logs:

Malformed UTF-8 characters, possibly incorrectly encoded, referer: http://siteURL/ojs/index.php/journalname/workflow/index/1674/3

[i18n] Settings in config.inc.php are identical to the ones present in the original version and so are the charset configurations in both the databases.

We started checking the database to find any malformed character that might be producing the error, but at the same time, we discovered that the error only gets triggered when it is the First Review Round. If we add a second Review Round and try to add a reviewer, there is no error and the list of available reviewers is displayed.

Any tip on this situation will be very welcome

Thanks in advance.

Edit Review - notification email sent to support contact

@Kyle wrote:

Hello, the platform I oversee uses OJS 3.1.1.4. I deal with the system side of things, so I am the ‘support contact’. I noticed a few emails come in to the support email recently that I don’t recognise, see screenshot

The email was triggered by the editor changing the review end time in the Edit review screen. Edit%20review

So I’m thinking this must be a bug, as I would expect the email to go to the reviewer to inform them of the change, and not to the support contact email address. I also couldn’t see this email in the prepared email list.

Best wishes,

Possible to have different themes for multiple hosted journals in a single OJS instance?

@paddy wrote:

Hi,

I’ve search the forums and can’t find a similar topic.

I have a new empty OJS 3.1.2-1 test site with multiple hosted journals. I would like to try out different themes for each journal.

I’m just looking at the official themes like healthSciences, classic and immersion first.

But so far, I am only able to change the theme for the main site, not for any of the hosted journals.

I can do the following:

Go to Administration > Site Settings > Site Setup tab > Theme drop-down; then select the installed theme that I want and click Save. That changes the theme for me on the main OJS site install.

However, when I try to do the same for an individual journal:

Go to Administration > Hosted Journals > Expand the journal I want > click Settings wizard > Appearance tab > the Theme drop-down only shows the ‘Default Theme’ and none of the additional ones.

Am not sure if it’s relevant but there are multiple PHP warnings in the server logs:

PHP Warning: Parameter 1 to GridHandler::fetchRow() expected to be a reference, value given in ojs-3.1.2-1/lib/pkp/classes/core/PKPRouter.inc.php on line 390, referer: https://server.name/index.php/index/admin/settings
PHP Warning: count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable in ojs-3.1.2-1/cache/t_compile/65bfc3e024c2e9104f46e23b73376a9455e3df0e^51cfb9321c891ada9323e7942962579e7e4324d1_0.app.frontendpagesindexSite.tp.php on line 46, referer: https://server.name/index.php/index/admin/settings
PHP Warning:  Declaration of MastheadForm::fetch($request, $params = NULL) should be compatible with ContextSettingsForm::fetch($request, $template = NULL, $display = false, $params = NULL) in ojs-3.1.2-1/controllers/tab/settings/masthead/form/MastheadForm.inc.php on line 18, referer: https://server.name/index.php/journal2/admin/contexts?openWizard=1

Relevant versions:

Version: OJS 3.1.2-1
PHP: 7.2.19
Host: Ubuntu 18.04 with Apache 2.4.29

Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully I’ve just missed something simple.

Thanks,
Paddy

Prevent Search Form Resubmission upon hitting Back button in OJS3

When search returns some results, and you hit the Back button on your browser (here Chrome), you’re taken to this ugly Confirm Form Resubmission page:

Is there any way to bypass it and take the visitor back to the Search form directly?

Another forum has a whole bunch of proposed solutions, so perhaps someone could find the one that’s fitting for OJS3?

How to make returned value of section Section in Article page clickable so it takes you to that article's Section?

@teog wrote:

When viewing an article in its Article View/page, you’re presented with that page’s sections:

  • Title
  • Authors
  • Affiliations
  • Abstract
  • How to Cite
  • Issue
  • Section
  • Copyright
  • References
    How to make the article’s displayed Section (for example: “Research Articles”) clickable so that clicking it takes the visitor to our Research Articles section?

This added cross-referencing feature seems simple to implement, yet it would greatly improve the user-friendliness of the OJS3 and provide a better user experience. Possibly a worthy candidate for a new feature of OJS3?

(NOTE: this is primarily for us who installed the Browse by Sections plugin. But those who created Sections as separate Categories will also benefit because, in their setup, they can link the article’s displayed Section to that Category which plays the role of that Section in which the article belongs.)

Get People Involved in the Submission Process of an Issue

@Antelmo_Aguilar wrote:

Hi,

I am developing a theme for OJS. One of the requirements of the theme is to display the “masthead” of an issue/article. In the masthead, we want to list all of the users involved in the review process of that issue/article and their role in the review process.

Is this something that can be retrieved through a DataStructure? The only thing I was able to find is that one can retrieve the Author, but as I mentioned, I would also like to get the information of everyone that was involved in the publication.

Thanks in advance!

High latency network issues

@jslacctholder wrote:

Hi everyone,

this is a follow-up to a topic that was never resolved. I am a user on two OJS journal websites (Journal of Slavic Linguistics and Language), and I discovered today that the problem I was having in the linked thread is not specific to one journal. The symptoms are slightly different, but the issue looks the same, so it’s not the installation but rather the way the OJS system handles logins on networks like mine.

The problem I am having on the Language site (http://languagelsa.org/index.php/language/about/submissions) is it won’t let me view metadata, submission information, the PDF of the article, etc. – I get errors to the effect of “you do not have the permissions to view this content” (screenshots of what I’m seeing attached). The kicker is that this happens when I am on the satellite internet connection, but not when I am on cable/DSL/etc. I verified this by driving 5 miles over to the public library and logging in from their network on the same computer I usually use.

So, just a guess here: it seems that something pertaining to session management relies on a faster response than my particular network is able to provide. I can help whoever wants to look into it with debugging this–it’s unlikely that you’d be able to see the errors I am seeing if you are on a normal urban broadband internet connection.
